Ripped
I wish I could report it was from going to the gym, but alas, it was a different definition of “ripped.” Last week, I did a quick Google search for Shaolin Nun to see if there were any write-ups, articles, etc. that would aid in promotion of the Kickstarter. Instead, I came across this:
“Designed and sold by TanCulaime.” Needless to say I didn’t give this TanCulaime permission to resell that beautiful image by Greg Maldonado for issue #1 —the first full image of Mei Yin. With the logo in that position, the only place they could have gotten it was from my TeePublic Store.
Of course, that particular design was the only one I forgot to put a copyright watermark onto the artwork (something I have since remedied). Still, I guess I should be flattered that a design I built for a t-shirt was attractive enough that TanCulaime thought they could sell it on their Redbubble shop.
The good news is that RedBubble has a link for those of us who find our work being used without our permission to submit a complaint and have the product taken down. Which they did. TanCulaime can attempt to dispute my copyright assertion, and at that point I have to have my attorney go after them within 14 days, or the image goes back up.
I don’t know what the lesson here is except, GET A COPYRIGHT (they’re not expensive) on your work, make sure you assert that copyright on your work at all times, and look around every now and then and make sure your work hasn’t been stolen.
Comics for sale!
I have a big collection of comics, and they’re getting out of hand. So I need to unload a few…thousand of them.
The lion’s share is from the past 23 years, when I’ve had a steady job and was eager to collect a lot of comics. But I do have quite a few from the 80s and 90s that are in decent condition.
I was a mega Vertigo collector in the 90s, and have almost everything Karen Berger put out back then. The majority will be in Near Mint or Very Fine condition. I also collected a few different issues from DC’s failed “The New 52” relaunch. Including quiet a few #1s.
NONE of my comics have been CGC graded and slabbed. I may consider it for a few gems I have, but I would need to know if it’s worth it.
I guess I’m telling you this so that any serious collectors or comics pros who want to take a look at my collection can know I’m in the process of going through my long boxes and stacks and getting things organized.
No reasonable offer will be refused. Hit me up if you’re interested.
State of the Kickstarter
We’re currently sitting at 40% funded. I was hoping that it would be at 50% funded by this point, as we’re now halfway through the campaign, but it’s a lot better than being only 30% funded.
I’ve still got around 175 previous backers who haven’t returned. I don’t know what they’re waiting for, but I won’t be surprised to see them come in at the last minute. Which would be fine, if we were already funded. Instead I wait impatiently every day to see that number eke up little by little.
