Gung Hay Fat Choy!
According to chinesefortunecalendar.com:
“2023 is the Year of the Yin-Water Rabbit. Yin-Water is the rain. Rabbits are associated with Yin Wood, which is grass. The picture of the Water Rabbit is raindrops on the grass. That implies a sign of blessing, a new outlook, a new beginning, and new hope.”
The Shaolin Nun #4 Kickstarter Campaign
First, if you haven’t backed the campaign yet:
Campaign Status
At the moment of this writing we’ve raised $1,736 from 64 backers. That’s a pretty good start. Not the best I’ve had and not the worst. But as this is my fourth campaign, I was honestly hoping to do a LOT better.
You see, even though there are still 39 days before the campaign ends, and even though the BackerKit forecast shows we would hit our funding goal by the last week of the campaign:
It would be better, for both my mental health and our ranking on Kickstarter, to hit our funding goal quickly. Every dollar raised after that lets me reward every backer with additional prizes! We call them Stretch Goals, and you WANT us to reach them.
Why do I care about my ranking on Kickstarter? The higher my ranking, the more Kickstarter backers will see the campaign. The more backers coming in, the more money we raise.
Otherwise it’s another campaign where I pike in at just over 100% funded, and that gives me very little (if any) wiggle room to pay my artists and pay for printing and shipping. The inflation hike this last time had me running out of money too quickly and it forced me to dip into my own money to make and ship rewards (mostly t-shirts), which I was doing up until two days before I launched this campaign.
So, please donate, and let people know THEY should also back the series.
Reward Updates
The early-bird special ends at midnight tonight. And we launch a new reward for Chinese New Year on January 23:
Backers of this tier will receive a digital “sketch” (it will be so much more than a sketch, if I know Tiah) and a printed copy of issue #4 with Tiah Ankum’s cover. I’m limiting it to five, so jump in early to get it!
Guest Appearances
I’ll be appearing on two YouTube shows at the end of the month! I’ll be on UHS Presents! on January 30 and The Comics Fu Show on January 31.
UHS Presents is hosted by the talented inker for The Shaolin Nun: Laurie Foster, and Sarah of Unlikely Heroes Studios.
I’ll be appearing with my buddy, Charlie McElvy, who also has a Kickstarter going on right now, that you need to back:
Why do you need to back The Complete Spider-Squirrel Volume One Ultimate Edition?
Because there’s this great character in Spider-Squirrel named Trash Panda and this is happening very soon:
So you need to pick up Spider-Squirrel, so you can understand how this dynamic team-up can happen!
The Comics Fu Show is hosted by fellow martial artists and comic book creators, Patrick Lugo and Sifu Kurtis Fujita. I’ll be a guest along with my amazing artists Gregory Maldonado and Tiah Ankum. We’ll be talking about The Shaolin Nun, martial arts, and comic books.
That’s all for now, true believers!
Until next week! Remember to jump on your socials, send out your emails and faxes, stand on your roof with a bullhorn and tell your friends, tell your family, tell your neighbors, and tell total strangers to back The Shaolin Nun on Kickstarter!
Do it today!
